RHINO became an independent non-governmental organization(NGO) in 2008. In order to sustain the continued expansion of RHINO activities in areas like advocacy, capacity building and research and development for Routine Health Information Systems, RHINO has embarked on a fund-raising strategy. One component of this strategy is the new RHINO membership policy. This policy enables RHINO supporters to contribute towards RHINO's growth. The membership policy has various options and new members may choose the one that most appeals to them. Each category has its own benefits and one can choose to be an organizational member or an individual member. A description of the membership categories follows below.

RHINO MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
I. Founding Member: A Founding Member is an appointed representative of an organization that provides RHINO in cash or in kind with:
- $20,000 from organizations with an annual revenue of > $50 Million
- $10,000 from organizations with an annual revenue of <$50 Million
Upon completion of two years of membership the Founding Member provides RHINO with:
- $4000 annually from organizations with annual revenue of >$50 million
- $2000 annually from organizations with annual revenue of <$50 million
Founding Members will, unless they choose otherwise, sit on the Board of Directors, be represented on the Technical Advisory Committee, sit on special committees of the RHINO organization, post organization employment notices on the RHINO web-site, be listed as a Founding Member on RHINO informational and marketing materials and have a display at the RHINO international conference at no charge to their organization.
II. Principal Member: A Principal Member is an appointed representative of an organization that provides RHINO with:
- $4000 annually from organizations with annual revenue of > $50 Million
- $2000 annually from organizations with annual revenue of <$50 Million
A Principal Member, with approval by the Board of Directors, and if they agree, may be invited to be a member of the Technical Advisory Committee, be an appointed member on special RHINO committees, post organization employment notices on the RHINO web-site, be listed as a Principal Member on RHINO informational and marketing materials and have a display at the international conference at no charge to their organization.
III. Institutional Member: An Institutional Member represents an institution that provides RHINO with:
- $1000 annually from organizations with annual revenue of > $50 Million
- $500 annually from organizations with annual revenue of <$50 Million
- $250 annually from organizations in resource poor countries
Institutional Members from UN agencies are exempt from the Institutional Membership fee.
An Institutional Member, with the approval of the Executive Director and if they agree, may sit on special RHINO committees, post organization employment notices on the RHINO web-site, be listed as an Institutional Member on RHINO informational and marketing materials and have a display at the international conference at no charge to their organization. Employees of an Institutional Member receive discounted registration fees at RHINO workshops and conferences.
IV. Regular Member: There is no membership fee for the Regular Member. The RHINO Regular Member is invited to use and contribute to the RHINO web page, register for the RHINO list-serve, register for the RHINO on-line forums and receivea discounted registration fee for RHINO conferences and workshops. RHINO Members are invited to be active advocates for routine health information systems world-wide.
