Information systems can be very complex, requiring attention to technology, data management, human behavior, and many additional dimensions. In an effort to unpack the essential components of an RHIS, numerous frameworks have been developed.
Here, we highlight two frameworks commonly used to conceptualize an HIS in greater detail: the Health Metrics Network (HMN) Framework and Performance of Routine Information System Management (PRISM) Framework and the assessment tools associated with each framework.
You can also learn more about the the structure and frameworks underpinning RHIS in the free book Design and Implementation of Health Information Systems (Lippeveld, Sauerborn & Bodart, 2000).
